VENEERS

WHAT IT IS

Treatment usually requires 2–6 visits, including consultation, record taking, smile planning, and tooth preparation. Veneers are then bonded and cemented.

KEY RISKS & LIMITATIONS

– Tooth sensitivity after preparation

– May eventually need replacement or repairs

– We aim to match veneers perfectly to surrounding teeth, but identical uniformity cannot always be guaranteed

– Composite veneers are more prone to chipping or breaking, especially in patients who clench or grind without a protective splint

– Porcelain veneers are stronger but can still fracture or debond

– Irreversible removal of some natural tooth structure

RECOVERY EXPECTATIONS

– Composite veneers typically last 3–5 years, porcelain veneers 8–10+ years depending on habits and maintenance

– Takes up to 2 weeks to adjust to the feel

WHAT IT IS

Orthodontic treatment uses braces or clear aligners to straighten teeth, correct bite issues, and improve appearance and function.

Treatment involves consultation, records, and planning, then fitting braces or aligners, regular adjustment or review visits, and retainers worn after treatment to maintain results.

KEY RISKS & LIMITATIONS

– Speech problems, scratches, or ulcers from appliances

– Gum problems (infections or inflammation)

– Enamel wear, demineralisation, or cavities if hygiene is poor

– Tooth root shortening (tooth resorption) – usually minor, occasionally significant

IMPLANTS & ALL-ON-X

WHAT IT IS

Dental implants are titanium posts placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth, topped with crowns for function and aesthetics. All-on-X (e.g., All-on-4) replaces a full arch of teeth using a smaller number of implants to support a fixed bridge, providing stability and a natural feel compared to traditional dentures.

STEPS INVOLVED

Treatment usually requires several visits over a few months: consultation and scans, implant placement surgery, a healing period for bone integration, temporary teeth during healing, and final crowns or bridge once stable.

KEY RISKS & LIMITATIONS

– Pain, swelling, bruising, or infection after surgery

– Implant failure if bone does not integrate properly

– Bone grafting may be required if jawbone volume is insufficient

– Nerve damage in lower jaw (temporary or permanent numbness/tingling)

– Sinus complications with upper jaw implants

– Damage to nearby teeth, roots, or anatomical structures

– Rare complications: allergies, bone fractures, delayed healing

– Higher cost and need for ongoing maintenance

– Implants and bridges are highly successful but may eventually require repair or replacement
